LOK SABHA PASSED TRIPLE TALAQ (DIVORCE) BILL BY VOICE VOTE

Yesterday, the Lok Sabha passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill by voice vote that makes instant triple talaq (divorce) or talaq(divorce)-e-biddat a criminal offence, with a jail term of up to three years. The proposed law would be applicable to the entire country, except in Jammu and Kashmir. It would make instant talaq (divorce) punishable and would be a cognisable, non-bailable offence. The bill will now be introduced in the Rajya Sabha, possibly on Monday or Tuesday.
