The Supreme Court sought the Centre’s response to a bunch of
PILs questioning the validity of polygamy and ‘nikah halala’ among sections of
Muslims. The Supreme Court also said it would consider setting up of a
five-judge constitution bench to examine the validity of the prevalent
practices of polygamy and 'nikah halala' among the Muslims, and also said that
they will be listed for hearing before the constitution bench after the Centre
files its response.
