SETTING UP CONSTITUTION BENCH TO EXAMINE VALIDITY OF NIKAH-HALALA, POLYGAMY AFTER CENTRE FILES ITS RESPONSE: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court sought the Centre’s response to a bunch of PILs questioning the validity of polygamy and ‘nikah halala’ among sections of Muslims. The Supreme Court also said it would consider setting up of a five-judge constitution bench to examine the validity of the prevalent practices of polygamy and 'nikah halala' among the Muslims, and also said that they will be listed for hearing before the constitution bench after the Centre files its response.
